PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide, on an occasion for manufacturing aldehyde by dehydrogenating a primary alcohol having 4-18 carbon atoms, a method for manufacturing aldehyde capable of obtaining the targeted aldehyde in a high conversion over an extended period.SOLUTION: The provided method for manufacturing aldehyde is a method for manufacturing aldehyde by contacting, with a dehydrogenation catalyst including copper and iron, a raw ingredient gas including a primary alcohol having 4-18 carbon atoms and water and by dehydrogenating the alcohol included within the raw ingredient gas wherein the water partial pressure of the raw ingredient gas is 0.2-99 kPa, wherein the reaction temperature is 200 to 300°C, wherein the reaction pressure in terms of absolute pressure is 102 kPa or below, and wherein the partial pressure of the primary alcohol is 1-50 kPa. A method for manufacturing aldehyde wherein the catalyst includes, in addition to copper and iron, one or more metal elements selected from the group consisting of Zn, Cr, Ni, Mn, Al, Si, and Ti is also provided. |
