A modular multilevel converter according to the present invention includes a plurality of sub modules including switching devices; and a controller which controls the switching devices included in the plurality of sub modules, respectively. The plurality of sub modules include two unidirectional control switch devices and two bidirectional control switch devices, and two capacitors. The two bidirectional control switch devices are connected to a contact point between the two unidirectional control switch devices and a contact point between the two capacitors, respectively, to form a neutral-point-clamped (NPC) shape. So, a level number can be increased by using a small number of switch devices. |
