Provided is a method for preparing an alkali cellulose which is improved in the uniformity of the distribution of alkali and does not contain a floating water-insoluble component. The method comprises the steps of supplying a pulp powder and an alkali aqueous solution to a high speed dispersion device simultaneously; and continuously mixing the pulp powder and the alkali aqueous solution to prepare an alkali cellulose, wherein the product is discharged continuously from a discharge hole. Preferably the obtained alkali cellulose is further reacted with an etherifying agent. Preferably the supply hole of the alkali aqueous solution is different from that of the pulp powder, or the alkali aqueous solution is injected after the pulp is injected at a supply hole if the supply hole is identical.
