<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a line head which can bring about a proper recorded image by reducing density unevenness (light quantity distribution) such as a longitudinal streak, generated in accordance with the arrangement pitch of lenses constituting a lens array, and an image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: This line head comprises: an element substrate 4 which keeps a plurality of light-emitting elements 3 arranged in a main-scanning direction; the lens array 7 which keeps a plurality of microlenses 8 arranged in the main-scanning direction, and this microlens 8 arranged in such a manner as to correspond to the plurality of light-emitting elements 3, and which can be moved in the main-scanning direction; and an actuator 12 which moves the lens array 7 in the main-scanning direction. A complete extinction period for extinguishing the light from all the light-emitting elements 3 of the element substrate 4 is provided within one scanning period in the main-scanning direction.
