PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide molecular delivery with nanowires.SOLUTION: A molecular delivery device includes a plurality of nanowires (e.g., Si NWs) coated with an electrically conductive layer. Also disclosed are methods for delivering a molecule by nanowire-mediated electroporation. This invention is based on an unexpected discovery that a voltage waveform of less than 10 V in amplitude can efficiently electroporate a cell using a set of electrically conductive nanowires collectively as an intracellular electrode. In one aspect, this invention features a molecular delivery device including (i) a carrier and (ii) a plurality of nanowires attached to a surface of the surface.
