PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an adhesive composition capable of exhibiting excellent wettability and adhesiveness even to the surface of a material to be bonded which was highly subjected to water repellent treatment, developing excellent performances such as initial adhesive force, normal-state adhesive force, water resistance, heat resistance in a good balance, especially suitably useful as an adhesive for water repellent paper. SOLUTION: This adhesive composition is characterized by adding >=5 pts.wt. of the resin content of a urethane resin emulsion and >=36 pts.wt. of limonene or a hydrogenated limonene to 100 pts.wt. of the resin content of an acrylic ester-ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer emulsion. The adhesive composition is characterized by adding >=5 pts.wt. of the resin content of the urethane resin emulsion and >=36 pts.wt. of the limonene or the hydrogenated limonene and >=1 pt,wt, of a diaklylsulfosuccinic ester salt to 100 pts.wt. of the resin content of the acrylic ester-ethlylene-vinyl acetate copolymer emulsion.
