PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To acquire a composite image having smooth gradation by stably determining a region having high contrast as an in-focus region. SOLUTION: Sharpness is calculated in all of focus-bracketed images on a pixel basis. Then, a two dimensional vector with the calculated sharpness defined as a radius vector is calculated as a first reference value by defining an image number with the calculated sharpness being the highest as argument, maps of X components and Y components are generated by separating the first reference value into the X components and the Y components, and the maps of the X components and Y components are respectively smoothed. A smoothed two dimensional vector is calculated in each pixel on the basis of the smoothed maps, argument of the two dimensional vector is calculated as a second reference value, and all focal images or blur-enhanced images are generated on the basis of the calculated second reference value. Since a precise in-focus distribution based on the sharpness can be calculated in this way, it is possible to acquire natural omni-focus images and blur-enhanced images.
