摘要 <p>A composite material being excellent in joint performance between a cemented carbide layer and a cermet layer and capable of limiting deformation after sintering, and a coated cutting tool provided with a base material consisting of this composite material. The composite material (10ii) consists of a cemented carbide layer (11) and a cermet layer (12) layered one upon another, and is provided on the front surface side thereof with cemented carbide layer (11). The interface between the both layers (11, 12) has a recess (23), with the maximum depth Dmax of the recess (23) being at least 50µ and up to 500µm. When the thickness of the composite material is h1 and the thickness of the cemented carbide layer (11) is h2, h2/h1 is over 0.02 and up to 0.4. With the recess (23) provided in the interface, the both layers (11, 12) join to each other sufficiently to provide an excellent joint performance. Since the cemented carbide layer (11) satisfies the above specified thickness, the composite material (10ii) is not likely to be deformed.</p>
