PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure insulation between a conductive carrier and a temperature sensor.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine 100 comprises in an exhaust passage: an electric heating-type first catalyst device 40 which is arranged in an outer cylinder 30 in a state of being electrically insulated from the outer cylinder 30, and makes a conductive carrier 41 which generates heat by being carried with electricity carry a catalyst; a temperature sensor 60 for indirectly detecting a temperature of the conductive carrier 41; and a second catalyst device 50 which is arranged in the outer cylinder 30 so as to adjoin the first catalyst device 40 at a downstream side of the first catalyst device 40 in an exhaust flow direction, and makes an insulative carrier 51 carry the catalyst. A base end part 602 of the temperature sensor 60 is attached to the outer cylinder 30 in a state of being electrically insulated from the outer cylinder 30, a temperature sensing part 601 of the temperature sensor 60 is arranged in an accommodation hole 511 which is formed at an end part of the insulative carrier 51 at an upstream side in the exhaust flow direction.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2 |
