PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a 4-halo-3-hydroxybutyramide, completing reaction in a short time and not requiring a lot of nitrile hydratase. SOLUTION: The method for producing the 4-halo-3-hydroxybutyramide comprises a step I of subjecting an epihalohydrin and/or a 1,3-dihalo-2-propanol and a cyanide donor to enzymatic reaction to synthesize a 4-halo-3-hydroxybutyronitrile and a step II of bringing the 4-halo-3-hydroxybutyronitrile into contact with nitrile hydratase so that the product of the concentration (mass%) of the nitrile with salt concentration (total of a salt of an alkali metal salt with a buffer agent salt and salts of metals composed of nickel, zinc and cobalt) (mass%) becomes≤160.
