Provided is an endoscope having a tip end in which generation of heat is reduced. The endoscope comprises an imaging system (104) and an illumination system (103), the illumination system (103) including light guides (102a, 102b) and at least more than one illumination lens (101a, 101b) and the imaging system (104) including an objective lens unit (LU) and an imaging element (105). When a direction along a long side of the imaging element (105) is a first direction and a direction along a short side of the imaging element (105) is a second direction, the illumination system (103) is disposed in a position shifted toward the second direction relative to the imaging system (104) and conditional expressions (1) 1.35 < A and (2) 1 < LH/LV are satisfied, where A is an aspect ratio of the region of the imaging element that corresponds to a display image range, LH is the size that corresponds to the first direction of an end surface of the light guide (102a, 102b) on a side of the illumination lens (101a, 101b), and LV is the size that corresponds to the second direction of the end surface of the light guide (102a, 102b) on the side of the illumination lens (101a, 101b). |
