Provided are an automated teller machine and counting method therefor which make it possible to automatically and continuously maintain a state of verification of a bank account balance, even when an error occurs, and to reduce personnel costs, without obstructing the efficient operation of the automated teller machine. An automated teller machine equipped with deposit/withdrawal cassettes, an identification unit, a reject cassette for storing money determined by the identification unit to be reject money, a replenishment/collection cassette capable of transferring money between the deposit/withdrawal cassettes, and a control unit, wherein: a transfer following an automatic recovery is performed when the automatic recovery is successful in the automated teller machine while the bank account balance is in a verified state; and the balance of the money in the reject cassette is calculated after automatic recovery, according to the balance of the money before and after automatic recovery in the replenishment/collection cassette and the deposit/withdrawal cassettes. |
