The actuator for opening a skylight is mounted on a cradle shaped support (5). The actuator cylinder (4a) fixed so that it can pivot about a spindle (7) in a cross member (6) fixed inside a frame in the skylight housing. The actuator rod is coupled to a part (2b) of the skylight dome (2). The support pivoting spindle is located in a different plane to that containing the actuator pushing axis. The actuator cylinder does not protrude beyond the housing in the open and closed position of the skylight. The skylight can be opened beyond 90 degrees by the pivoting action of the actuator support.
