<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vein scanning unit enabling stable placement of a finger at a predetermined position. <P>SOLUTION: The vein scanning unit includes a near-infrared LED disposed on the upper portion thereof, a CCD camera disposed on the lower portion thereof, and a table for receiving the finger inside an imaging body portion, having an electrostatic capacity touch sensor disposed at an aperture in which the finger has been inserted. The table is slidable in the forward and backward directions of the imaging main body portion, and the slid position is detected by a position detection means so as to be displayed on a liquid crystal display portion on the front face of the unit.
