PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a possession monitoring system that reports a loss to a management institution at an appropriate timing. SOLUTION: The possession monitoring system comprises a monitoring apparatus for detecting an article loss according to the detection status of radio tags attached to articles to be monitored, and a center apparatus for receiving an anomaly signal from the monitoring apparatus via a communication network and notifying the anomaly to a possessor terminal carried by the possessor of the articles. When receiving the anomaly signal from the monitoring apparatus, the center apparatus sends anomaly information to the possessor terminal, and if receiving no response information representing the possessor's acknowledgement of the anomaly information from the possessor terminal within a predetermined time after the anomaly information sending, determines to report the loss and sends loss report information about the lost article to be reported to the management institution.
