<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium capable of recording and regeneration of optical information of a high density by laser beams of a short wave length. <P>SOLUTION: For the optical recording medium having a substrate and a recording layer which is provided on the substrate which can record or reproduce information by being irradiated with light, 7-aluminocarbostyryl compound given in the following general formula [I] is contained in the recording layer.
