PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low temperature storage system which achieves stable transportation of a storage object while achieving downsizing and simplification of a transport mechanism, and to provide the transport mechanism for the low temperature storage system.SOLUTION: A low temperature storage system 100 includes a low temperature storage 110 and a transport mechanism 130. The transport mechanism 130 includes: reciprocation means 140 which may reciprocate along a transportation direction; driving means 150 which drives the reciprocation means 140; and a holding part 132 which is attached to the tip side of the reciprocation means 140 and holds a storage object P. The reciprocation means 140 is formed by at least a pair of engagement chains 140 which moves along the transportation direction in the low temperature storage 110 while engaging with each other and being integrated, and disengages from each other to branch at the exterior of the low temperature storage 110. |
