The air conditioner has a drain pan for collecting the drain water dripping from a heat exchanger, the drain pump for discharging the drain water in the drain pan, and a DC motor for driving the drain pump. The DC motor for driving the drain pump is controlled so that its rotational speed increases with an increase in its rotational torque.
