PURPOSE: To produce a spherical cellulose, comprising a regenerated cellulose having a specific sphericity, a specified particle diameter and a specific crystallinity, having the high sphericity and reactivity and useful as a medicinal substrate or a chromatographic agent, etc. CONSTITUTION: This spherical cellulose comprises a regenerated cellulose having <=5% crystallinity obtained by an X-ray diffractometry and has 0.8-1.0 sphericity and 20-2000μm average particle diameter. The spherical cellulose is prepared by dissolving cellulose in a system containing an amide which is, e.g. dimethylacetamide, N-methylpyrrolidone or its mixture coexisting with lithium chloride in an amount of 5-20wt.% based on the total amount, dropping the resultant solution from a dropping device having a protruding hole into a downward alcohol (e.g. methanol, ethanol, butanol or amyl alcohol) and coagulating the cellulose into the spherical form. |
