A security system for an external data storage device and a method for controlling the same are provided to prevent a leakage of important data by others due to loss of the external data storage device and careless management, and maintain security in case that the external data storage device is mounted at other data terminals, thereby preventing a leakage of data or damage of data in advance, and safely protecting data of users. A data storing unit(10) stores data. A fast serial bus(70) connects a data terminal(80) reading and writing the data stored in the data storing unit, with the data storing unit. A key input unit(30) converts a password inputted by operation of a user into electric signals, and outputs the converted password. A memory(44) stores the password inputted from the key input unit. A control circuit(40) compares the password inputted from the key input unit with a set password stored on the memory to drive the data storing unit. The control circuit rearranges storage sectors of the data storing unit when the data terminal is connected, with a password error or without input of the password. |
