A light therapy apparatus 8 has at least a first track 9 and a second track 11 of light emitting diodes. The tracks are powered by supply waveforms which are of opposite phase such that the first track of diodes emits light whilst the second track does not, producing alternate flashing from the tracks of diodes at frequencies between 1 and 40,000 Hz. Some of the diodes may be laser diodes 14. The diodes may emit light with a wavelength of between 400 and 470 nm, of 650 nm (red) or of 780 nm (infrared). The tracks may be arranged concentrically and may incorporate multiple concentric rings of one track followed by another (figure 4A). A probe (40, figure 5) may be attached to the device for increased precision. It may have a central laser diode (42) surrounded by multiple nonâ laser diodes (44).
