摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for optical fiber that can stabilize flotation of an optical fiber bare wire at a direction converter.SOLUTION: There is provided a manufacturing method for optical fiber including a spinning process of forming an optical fiber bare wire 3 by fusing and spinning an optical fiber base material 2, a coating process of providing the optical fiber bare wire 3 with a coating layer at a periphery thereof, and a curing process of curing the coating layer to obtain an optical fiber 5. The direction of the optical fiber bare wire 3 is changed by one or a plurality of direction converters 20 at some positions between the spinning process and coating process. A direction converter 20 has a guide groove for guiding the optical fiber bare wire 3 and an inner space into which a fluid is introduced from outside. In the guide groove, a blowout hole is formed which floats the optical fiber bare wire 3 by blowing a liquid out. The position of the optical fiber bare wire 3 at the direction converter 20 is detected and the amount of the fluid introduced into the direction converter 20 is controlled based upon position information on the optical fiber bare wire.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
