A ring shaped friction lining (1) for a clutch plate to for a disc brake has the lining divided into at least two groups of smaller areas with the groups axially offset by approx 0.5 to 1 mm in order to reduce judder effects. The design can be extended to include a third group axially offset from the other two groups. The group shapes can be segments of the ring with segment angles between 20 and 25 deg.
