PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a flame-retardant resin composition comprising aluminum and a flame-retardant inorganic substance which has a small particle diameter and is finely dispersed in a polymer, and to provide a manufacturing method therefor. SOLUTION: The flame-retardant resin composition comprises a synthetic resin polymer such as a thermoplastic resin and an aluminum-containing flame-retardant inorganic compound having a number average particle diameter of≤500 nm. The aluminum-containing flame-retardant inorganic compound is preferably a compound represented by the formula: wM×zH<SB>2</SB>O (wherein M is Al, an Al oxide or an Al hydroxide; (w) is an integer selected from 1 to 5; and (z) is an integer selected from 0 to 10).
