PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a phenolic compound as a recording material not only excellent in the whiteness of a texture but also excellent in the conservation of the texture and an image and further having an excellent coloring sensitivity.SOLUTION: Provided is a method for producing a compound represented by formula (I) by reacting a 2-aminophenol compound refined by reduction refining with a reducer with carboxylic acid or a carboxylic acid halide compound in the presence of a base and thereafter causing crystallization(Rdenotes OH or a halogen atom; p denotes an integer of 0 to 5; Rand R, respectively independently, H or a 1 to 6C alkyl; Rdenotes H; and the bond shown by a wavy line denotes E, Z or their mixture).SELECTED DRAWING: None |
