PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for preventing a facsimile machine from misjudging that an external telephone set closes a public telephone line when the facsimile machine opens the public telephone line. SOLUTION: A facsimile circuit does not judge whether or not the external telephone set closes the public telephone line until a prescribed time elapses after a facsimile circuit opens the public telephone line, but the facsimile circuit judges whether or not the external telephone set closes a public telephone line 32 when a monitored stop time Tm elapses after the facsimile circuit opens the public telephone line. Since the facsimile circuit can judge whether or not the external telephone set 3 closes the public telephone line 32 without being affected by a line connection device, it is prevented that the facsimile circuit misjudges that the external telephone set closes the public telephone line when the facsimile circuit opens the public telephone line.
