PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine igniter enabling the generation of a continuous spark discharge by input of energy, capable of reliably preventing accidental fire due to blowout.SOLUTION: An igniter comprises a blowout determination unit 5b determining that blowout occurs if a time differential value &Dgr;I2 of a secondary current exceeds a predetermined threshold Z within a determination period, the determination period being a predetermined period &Dgr;T since the start of a spark discharge by a main ignition circuit 3. If it is determined that blowout occurs during main ignition (during full transistor ignition), a control is exerted to generate a continuous spark discharge after main ignition in the next cycle. Furthermore, a secondary current command value at that time is set to a current value obtained by adding a predetermined current value α to a secondary current value I2x just before the occurrence of the blowout. As a result, it is possible to ensure the prevention of the blowout in the next cycle, so that it is possible to reliably prevent the blowout from causing accidental fire. |
