A (computer implemented) questionnaire for differentiating between meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) and other causes of ocular discomfort (e.g. tear film instability (TFI)) comprises presenting questions 10 to a patient. Patient responses 12 are compared 14 with reference data comprising probabilistic relationships between symptoms and conditions associated with ocular discomfort. The questionnaire differentiates between MGD and other causes of ocular discomfort by comparing 14 the patient data 12 and reference data to formulate a diagnosis 16 by identifying a condition most commonly associated with symptoms in the reference data that most closely match the patient data 12. After diagnosis 16 a treatment plan 18 is generated. |
