PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing apparatus stably securing durability of a fixing roller or a pressurizing member by not having an image damaged by not providing a separating claw even in an oilless state and also adapting to high speed fixing. SOLUTION: The fixing apparatus is provided with a fixing member with a heating means and a pressurizing member forming a nip part by pressurizing the fixing member, and fixing is carried out by having transfer material with an unfixed toner image transferred to it pass through the nip part. The fixing member is provided with an elastic layer, the nip shape is projected on the fixing member side by having the elastic layer deformed by the pressurizing member. A means is provided to increase pressure of the pressurizing force in that position when a leading tip of the transfer material is at least passed the nip on the downstream side.
