PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a frictional characteristic value measuring instrument for a thread capable of measuring easily an accurate frictional characteristic value of the thread, and a sewing machine capable of controlling tensile force of the thread, based on the frictional characteristic value of the thread measured by the frictional characteristic value measuring instrument for the thread. SOLUTION: This frictional characteristic value measuring instrument 1 for the thread is provided with a guide part 11 provided in a thread route path P1, for guiding the thread T to bend at least one portion of the thread T, and provided movably to generate dynamic frictional force with respect to the thread T, a weight load part 12 for generating fixed tensile force in the thread T by a weight 121, and a spring balance 13 for measuring force required for moving the guide part 11.
