A material mixture comprises spinel and zirconium oxide and a coarse-grained fraction with a weight fraction of greater than 50% and a fine-grained fraction. The coarse-grained fraction comprises coarse grains with dimensions larger than 20mu m and the fine-grained fraction comprises fine grains with dimensions smaller than 20mu m. An independent claim is included for a method for manufacturing fire-retardant molding body, which involves using material mixture, in which a dispersant, an auxiliary material, an organic and an inorganic base are added to obtain a moldable mass.
