<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting diode which is provided with two electrodes on a light extraction surface, and which is large in size and high in light extraction efficiency and luminance. <P>SOLUTION: The light emitting diode is provided with a light emitter including a light emitting layer, wherein a compound semiconductor layer including the light emitter is joined with a transparent substrate. It is also provided with a first electrode on a main light extraction surface opposite to the transparent substrate, and a second electrode with different polarity from that of the first electrode. The second electrode is formed on the compound semiconductor layer which is exposed by removing the semiconductor layer. The maximum outer width of the main light extraction surface is 0.8 mm or more, and the second electrode is formed surrounded by the semiconductor layer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
