A small volume of reagent is supplied to a sample uniformly to stain the sample. Provided is a sample staining device (1) equipped with: a space-forming member (9) which is placed above a sample (A)-mounting surface (2a) of a glass slide (2) having a sample (A) mounted thereon with leaving a space between the mounting surface (2a) and the space-forming member (9), wherein the space has such a thickness that a capillary phenomenon can be caused in the space; and a chemical solution supply section (10) for supplying a chemical solution for staining the sample (A) into the space between the space-forming member (9) and the mounting surface (2a) to spread the chemical solution in the space by the action of the capillary phenomenon, thereby uniformly supplying the chemical solution to the sample (A) mounted on the mounting surface (2a).
