PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the time required to optimize the tilt angle of the optical system in an optical disk player. SOLUTION: The optical disk player repeats to measure the jitter of the RF signals by changing the tilt angle of the optical system in a predetermined first direction until the measured jitters (P<SB>+1</SB>, P<SB>+2</SB>, ...) exceed the threshold. During this process, the larger the difference between the jitter measured immediately before and the threshold, the larger is the tilt angle changeΔθmade when measuring next; and the smaller the difference, the smaller is the tilt angle changeΔθmade when measuring next. Further, it repeats a process in the second direction opposite to the first direction by similarly changing the tilt angle of the optical system to measure the jitters (P<SB>-1</SB>, P<SB>-2</SB>, ...) of the RF signals. Then, the tilt angle of the optical system is optimized by regarding the center tilt angleθc between the two tilt angles (θ<SB>+4</SB>andθ<SB>-5</SB>) obtained when the measured jitters exceed the threshold as the optimal tilt angle.
