PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording device which improves the picture quality of an image recorded on a recording medium by this image recording device using a line head, increases the processing speed of the image recording, reduces costs of the device, makes the device compact, and also, can properly select whether priority is given to the processing speed or the picture quality. SOLUTION: This image recording device comprises the line head for which a plurality of recording elements are arranged, a recording medium carrying means which carries the recording medium, and a recording medium discharging means which discharges the recording medium. The image recording device also comprises a feed switching means which feeds out the recording medium to the recording medium discharging means or a recording medium circulating means, and a line head position controlling means which controls the position of the line head in the direction for the arrangement of a plurality of the recording elements while carrying the recording medium.
