<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a building with an elevator in which a living space on a first story is increased by eliminating the need of securing a space for an elevator landing on the first story of the building. <P>SOLUTION: The car 4 of the elevator having two-way doors 4a, 4b are lifted in a hoistway 3 of the building 1 having a plurality of stories to move elevator users to any story. The building 1 comprises a first landing door 1a of the elevator at a position facing the outer ground on the first story, an entrance 1b exclusively used for dwellers on the first floor at a position different from the first landing door 1a of the elevator, and the second landing door 1c of the elevator on the other story. The car 4 is so installed that the first car door 4a is positioned on the side corresponding to the first landing door 1a facing the outer ground and the second car door 4b is positioned on the side corresponding to the second landing door 1c.
