In a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (100B), a groove (142) (catho de-side gas flow path) in a cathode-side separator (140), and a groove (152) (anode-side gas flow path) in an anode-side separator (150) are formed such that air and hydrogen flow in a direction opposite to the direction of grav ity. A surface treatment may applied to the surface of the grooves (142 and 152) such mat the hydrophilicity is higher on the downstream side than on th e upstream side in the grooves. |
