Disclosed are a method and device for feeding back channel state information in a multi-input multi-output system. The method comprises: feeding back, by a user equipment (UE), to an eNodeB the channel state information (CSI) comprising codebook index information. The codebook index information comprises a first type of codebook index set I and a second type of codebook index set J, wherein a combination of the first type of index set I and the second type of index set J is used to indicate a precoding matrix U, and the precoding matrix U is an Nt×r matrix and is composed of at least Q×r basic vectors having a dimension of Nt/Q. The basic vectors are extracted by rows from a matrix B composed of M rows of Nt/Q-dimensional vectors.
