PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal composition having an adequately low viscosity (η), an adequately low rotational viscosity (γ1), a large elastic coefficient (K), a high voltage holding rate (VHR (UV)) after UV irradiation, and negative dielectric anisotropy (Δε) having a large absolute value without decreasing a refractive index anisotropy (Δn) and a nematic phase-isotropic liquid phase transition temperature (T), and to provide a liquid crystal display element of a VA type or the like using the above liquid crystal composition, which achieves excellent display quality and a fast response speed while eliminating or suppressing display defects.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal composition contains a compound represented by general formula (I-IV) and contains a compound represented by general formula (I); and the liquid crystal display element uses the above liquid crystal composition.SELECTED DRAWING: None |
