A gaming machine 72 including a gaming machine controller 10 which includes an input module 14 for connection of a gaming console 20. An audio/video module 16 is provided for connection of at least one of audio and video equipment. A format-independent controller module 18 is responsive to the gaming console 20, the controller module 18 being configured to convert game play control inputs into output signals for, and recognisable by, the gaming console 20 to provide game play outcomes responsive to the game play control inputs. The gaming machine 72 also includes a first display 1110 connected to the audio/video module 16 to present gameplay, wherein the first display 1110 is a touch screen interface which is connected to the format-independent controller module 18 to provide user input provided via the touch screen interface.
