PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine a document size without providing a long-side direction detection sensor.SOLUTION: An image reader comprises: a reading section; a document placing table provided with a first reference angle and a second reference angle; a document cover covering a document; detection means for detecting that the document cover is in a predetermined position; and a control section. The control section performs an acquisition process in which, when the document cover is detected, a reading section is caused to acquire a document position indicating whether a document is placed at the first reference angle or the second reference angle and also acquire a document width indicating the document width in a main scanning direction. The control section also performs a confirmation process in which, when the document is placed at the first reference angle, a document size is confirmed by determining that the document width is equal to one of the long-side width and short-side width of a document of regular size, and when the document is placed at the second reference angle, the document width is confirmed by determining that the document width is equal to the other of the long-side width and short-side width, The control section performs reading by using the document size as a reading area.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 |
