Compositions comprising nicotine, which compositions provide a rapid rele ase of nicotine. Nicotine is present in the form of a nicotine-cellulose com bination. The compositions are designed for administration to the oral cavit y where the nicotine is rapidly released from the composition and available for absorption through the oral mucosa. The compositions are lozenges and ha ve excellent storage stability.
