A tomographic imaging device (1) for in-line product inspection is described. The device comprises a stationary radiation source (2) for emitting radiation, a stationary image detector (3) for capturing a plurality of projection images of a product item (4) by detecting the radiation transmitted through the product (4), and a tomographic reconstruction unit (6) for determining an internal representation of the product. The device further comprises a transport line (5) for moving the item (4) along a predetermined path in between the source (2) and the detector (3) by simultaneously rotating and translating the product item (4), such as to orient and position the product item in different orientations and positions with respect to the detector (3) when each of the plurality of projection images is captured, said rotating occurring around a rotation axis that is not parallel with the translation axis of said translating.
