PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light diffusing sheet superior in cost performance, light transmissivity, and directional light diffusion function, and a backlight unit which promotes improvement of performance such as brightness and cost performance.SOLUTION: The light diffusing sheet includes a transparent base layer and a light diffusing layer. The light diffusing layer includes resin beads and a binder. Forming means for beads includes pulverizing means for pulverizing transparent thermoplastic resin into fine particles, classifying means for classifying particle sizes of the fine particles, and spheroidizing means for fusing the fine particles to make them spherical. The pulverizing means includes rough pulverizing means for pulverizing the thermoplastic resin into rough particles and fine pulverizing means for pulverizing the rough particles into fine particles. The spheroidizing means includes spraying means for spraying the fine particles into hot blast air, fusing means for fusing the fine particles by contact with the hot blast air to make them spherical, and cooling means for bringing the fine particles made spherical into contact with cooling air while dropping them to solidify them. |
