PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform filtration by stable clamping force and to prevent the leakage or the like of sludge caused by the lowering of clamping force during filtration. SOLUTION: This filter press 10 is equipped with a filter plate group comprising a plurality of filter plates 20 provided in a mutually freely openable and closable manner, the fixed stand 30 connected to the filter plate 20A provided to the end part on one side of the filter plate group and the moving stand 31 connected to the filter plate 20B provided to the end part on the other side of the filter plate group and provided so as to freely advance and retreat in the thickness direction of the filter plates 20, and characterized by providing a main clamping mechanism 32 for clamping a plurality of the filter plates 20 in the thickness direction thereof in a state that the moving stand 31 is allowed to advance to close the filter plates 20 and an auxiliary clamping mechanism 40 for further pressing the filter plates 20 in the thickness direction thereof to clamp them in a state that the filter plates 20 are clamped by the main clamping mechanism 32.
