<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus by which even an unaccustomed user can properly set a mode while reducing the frequency of selecting operation. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus comprises; a guide display means 10 for displaying operation procedures of setting a mode for a document or a copy of the document, as a guide; an image read means 2 for reading the document in the set mode; and an image forming means 5 for forming a copy image on a recording medium in the set mode and outputting it.
