PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a getting-on-and-off step device for a vehicle high in rigidity a step plate of which never sinks even when a passenger steps on an upper surface of the step plate as the developed step plate stops at a position easy for the passenger to get on and off the vehicle. SOLUTION: This getting-on-and-off step device S for the vehicle is furnished with the movable step 50, a developing and storing means 30 to move the movable step between a storing position and a developing position and a driving means 20 to drive the developing and storing means 30. The developing and storing means 30 is furnished with a driving mechanism 30B to revolve and vertically move an arm shaft 43 and a piece of arm member 70 one end of which is connected to a lower end part of the arm shaft 43 and the other end of which is connected to the movable step 50 through a vertical shaft 64a free to revolve, and the driving mechanism 30B is furnished with a horizontally moving mechanism to horizontally move the movable step 50 by revolving the arm member 70 around the arm shaft 43 and a vertically moving mechanism to vertically move the arm member 70 and the movable step 50.
