PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a head in a drive from being damaged by sticking of scraped dusts to a tape surface due to scraping of a flange surface when a magnetic tape end surface comes in contact with the flange inner surface of the magnetic tape reel. SOLUTION: The magnetic tape reel includes a hub on which a magnetic tape is wound, and a flange disposed in at least one of the upper and lower ends of the hub. The flange includes, on at least a portion of the surface of the hub side, a surface coating having hardness equal to or greater than that of the magnetic tape end surface.
