<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To acquire an image in which bright-area-gradation deterioration or dark-area-gradation deterioration is reduced, irrespective of the degree of photographing experience by performing automatic exposure correction. <P>SOLUTION: Exposure value determining processing is performed in accordance with a half-depression operation. In the exposure value determining processing, the luminance frequency distribution is obtained for an acquired image signal, the presence of overflow or underflow deviating from the dynamic range of an imaging device is determined on the basis of the luminance frequency distribution, and exposure correction amount for a set exposure value is operated to reduce the overflow or underflow on the basis of luminance frequency distribution.
