METHOD OF ESTIMATING ILLUMINATION CHANGE OF IMAGES FOR OBJECT DETECTION

The present invention provides a method of estimating illumination change of images for object detection. The method involves estimating illumination change for images and further changing the luminance of a corresponding background image. The method first involves determining the difference in luminance of a current image and a corresponding background image and also determining the difference in chrominance of the current image and the corresponding background image. Then the ratio between the luminance of the current image and the luminance of the background image is determined if the difference in luminance is larger than a first predetermined value and the difference in chrominance is smaller than a second predetermined value. The determined ratio is a measure of the illumination change between the image and the background image. Further the invention involves changing the luminance of the background image using the determined ratio.
